Most premium blade putters are either milled from a single piece of steel or built around a face insert. Each approach has its benefits—and its tradeoffs.
The traditional one-piece milled putter is comfortable and familiar, especially to players who have always putted this way. It’s straightforward to machine, consistent in feel, and trusted for its simplicity. But the design locks in weight distribution, sound, and feedback from the moment it leaves the mill. What you get out of the box is what you'll always have.
Insert-style putters, on the other hand, open the door to more customized feel. Manufacturers can build the body from lighter or heavier metals and then install a face insert tailored to a specific softness, sound, or feedback profile. But these inserts often rely on adhesives or elastomer materials that can wear over time—and they rarely provide the clarity or durability of a fully milled face.
At Van Allen Golf, we’ve taken a different route.
Our removable face putter is fully milled, but features a removable face—not for on-the-fly adjustments, but to allow for smarter, more refined engineering inside the head. The putter plays, looks, and feels like a single-piece milled blade, tuned precisely from day one. But by machining the face separately and securing it through a top-entry slot and two underside bolts, we’re able to shape what happens behind the face in ways a traditional design simply can’t, creating a truly precision‑engineered putter.
This approach allows us to:
- Adjust the mass and shape of the face to fine-tune the Moment of Inertia (MOI) without increasing the size of the head
- Modify thickness and pocketing behind the face to influence sound, balance, and feel—features not possible in a one-piece design
- Preserve the classic silhouette and direct steel-on-ball feedback of a milled blade—without relying on bonded materials
The key point: the face doesn’t need to be removed to perform. Each putter comes tuned, balanced, and ready for play right out of the box. But the face can be removed—allowing for redistribution of weight, or even swapping to other face plates we offer in alternate materials or mass profiles.
There’s no plastic. No visible tech. Nothing interrupting your sightline. Just a clean, confident blade—engineered differently, built to last, and ready to perform from day one.
This isn’t a putter designed to be adjusted mid-round. It’s a putter designed to be built better from the start—to feel right in your hands, sound right off the face, and offer the kind of consistency serious golfers expect.
